Subversive for Target

I have taken the handmade pledge, I support the local artists (I am one myself), but I still love Target! Target recently announced that it is partnering with Justin Giunta of Subversive Jewelry to create a line of jewelry for Target. The designs for Target are cool. However, I can't really see myself paying $59.99 for a necklace made of plastic and inexpensive metals. Well, let's face it, I'm not really going to be buying jewelry anywhere, I'm going to make it. That being said, Target rocks for partnering with up and coming designers. I dream of the day that Target calls me up to partner with Ben and Henry Designs =)

Modern Sky

I loved the look of the cross sections of turquoise so much in my other Sky necklaces, that I created this more contemporary version ... Modern Sky.  Several variations of silver, turquoise and smokey topaz mix together to make this necklace.  The large turquoise nugget measures just over 2 inches in length and just under 1 and 1/2 inches in width.  Each larger faceted smokey quartz bead measures just under 3/4 inch in length and 1/2 inch in width.  Each smaller faceted smokey quartz sphere measures approximately 1/4 inch in diameter.  The smooth turquoise balls measure 1/8 inch in diameter.  The sterling silver brushed oval measures just over 1/2 inch in length and 1/4 inch in width.  Three brushed silver ovals add geometric interest.  Brushed silver toggle clasp.  Measures approximately 20 inches in length.

Blue Sky on a Winter Day

After the months of dreary weather we have been having in Chicago, I created Blue Sky on a Winter Day.  The jolt of bright blue in each one of these six cross sections of turquoise brightens up any day.  Each turquoise piece measures approximately two inches long by one inch wide.  Each faceted smoky quartz piece measures just under 3/4 of an inch long and 1/2 inch wide.  Sterling silver toggle clasp.  Measures 15 inches in length.

Glimpse of Sky is for those who like the look of Blue Sky on a Winter Day, but want to make a more subtle statement.  The single turquoise cross section is still quite substantial, measuring approximately just under 2 inches in length by 1 and 1/2 inches in width.  Each faceted smokey quartz stone measures just under 3/4 of an inch in length by half an inch in length.  Sterling silver toggle clasp.  Measures 15 inches in length.
